Come learn to make pizza and gelato just like the Italians do in a fun, shared cooking class in the heart of Rome. This family-friendly experience is perfect for anyone who wants to discover Italy’s culinary traditions in an easy, hands-on and memorable way.
Type: Shared/hands-on cooking class.
Schedule: Every day at 11:00, 15:00, and 18:30.
Meeting point: The exact meeting point and directions are provided at the time of booking.
Duration: 3 hours.
First, you will meet your professional English-speaking local pizza chef (pizzaiolo), who will guide you step by step through the experience. Together, you will prepare your own pizza from scratch, starting with the dough and learning how to create a soft, elastic yeast base. The chef will show you how to stretch it thin for a crispy Roman-style crust, or keep it a bit thicker for a softer, fluffier result, depending on your taste.
You will then choose and combine fresh, seasonal toppings inspired by the Roman pizza tradition and discover how to bake your pizza properly, including how to use a professional pizza shovel. Finally, the chef will explain how to adapt these techniques to the oven you have at home, so you can recreate your Roman-style pizza wherever you are.
While your carefully prepared dough rests, you’ll dive into the world of Italian gelato. During a lively demonstration, the chef will explain the history and evolution of gelato. You’ll see how this simple dessert became one of Italy’s most loved treats. You’ll then discover the traditional fresh ingredients used to make it. The chef will show you the techniques that create its smooth texture and rich flavor. You’ll also receive practical tips on how to spot truly authentic gelaterie while you travel in Italy.
Then the experience becomes even sweeter as you learn how to make a perfect waffle cone. You’ll see how to mix butter, sugar and flour into a silky batter, watch it bake on the griddle until golden, and finally shape the warm wafer into the iconic gelato cone. It’s a fun, sensory moment that makes you appreciate every bite of your dessert even more.
At the end of the class, you will enjoy the meal you prepared – your own pizza and gelato – with wine for adults and soft drinks for children. This creates a relaxed and joyful moment to share with the rest of the group.
Before you leave, you will receive a graduation certificate and a digital booklet with all the recipes. Thanks to this, you can recreate your pizza and gelato at home and share the taste of Italy with friends and family.
