This project elegantly blends the beauty of 17th-century art with modern creativity, revitalizing one of the city’s hidden gems: the Loggia dei Vini at Villa Borghese. This Baroque pavilion, adorned with intricate decorations and frescoes, once hosted Cardinal Scipione Borghese’s lively banquets. Now, after years of closure, the Loggia has reopened to welcome visitors. This marks the completion of the first phase of restoration funded by the Italian multinational Ghella, known for large-scale infrastructure projects. The project was conducted under the guidance of the Capitolina Superintendency.

Lavinia Fontana

Curator Salvatore Lacagnina, in partnership with Roma Capitale’s Department of Culture, developed this project to celebrate Lavinia Fontana, the first professional female artist in art history. Her works have been part of the Borghese collection since the early 1600s. This initiative invites visitors to engage with the Loggia’s rich history. Ponder the connection between art and architecture, and discover the interplay of public art and tradition.

In addition, the new contemporary art program brings together installations, performances, readings, workshops, and educational activities, creating an immersive, unified experience. Currently, the Loggia dei Vini features site-specific works by artists such as Ross Birrell & David Harding, Monika Sosnowska, Enzo Cucchi, Gianni Politi, Piero Golia, and Virginia Overton. The exhibition is open to the public for free from Thursday through Sunday.
