Yes, if you want to see several lit-up landmarks in one evening without long walks: in 2 hours, a private golf cart or vintage Fiat 500 can link the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain. Prices start at €450 (golf cart) and €590 (Fiat 500) for up to 3 people. Staying near Trevi or Navona? Walk.

Rome changes after dark: traffic thins out, the monuments are lit up, and in winter night falls before dinner. We are Facile Tours, a local tour operator in Rome since 2012, and we run private golf cart and Fiat 500 tours in the evening. Here is an honest look at what you see, what it costs, and when you do not need a tour at all.
What does Rome look like at night?
After dark, the main landmarks are lit up and the streets between them are quieter than by day:
- The Colosseum, with warm light in its arches, and the Roman Forum along Via dei Fori Imperiali.
- The Vittoriano, the white marble monument on Piazza Venezia.
- The Trevi Fountain. The square is free; going down to the basin costs €2 until 22:00, with last entry at 21:00. See our Trevi Fountain guide.
- Piazza Navona, with Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers, and the Pantheon, a few minutes away.
- St Peter’s Basilica, with its dome at the end of Via della Conciliazione.
- Viewpoints such as the Janiculum Hill and the Aventine Keyhole.

When does it get dark in Rome in November and December?
Early. In November and December the sun sets between about 16:40 and 17:05, and it is fully dark by about 17:30, so any tour that starts at 18:00 or later is a night tour. In July, by contrast, the sun sets at about 20:50, so a 20:00 start begins in daylight.
- Cold: dress in layers, with a hat and gloves in December. Our Fiat 500s have blankets on board.
- Rain: our golf carts have rain covers and run in the rain. In wet weather, Fiat 500 tours switch to golf carts, and if no golf cart is available, we offer you another date or time.
- Christmas: the lights along Via del Corso usually go up from 8 December, and the Piazza Navona Christmas market is expected from 1 December. Dates and tips are in our Christmas in Rome guide.

Golf cart, Fiat 500, walking or taxi: which is best at night?
| Option | Price | What you get | On a winter evening | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Walking | Free | Your own pace in the compact center | Dress warmly; wet cobblestones are slippery | Staying in the center |
| Taxi | Meter from €3.50 on weekdays or €5 on Saturdays and holidays until 22:00; €7.50 from 22:00 to 6:00 | A ride from A to B, not a tour | Warm and dry | One sight, getting back late |
| Golf cart by night (ours) | from €450 for 1–3 people (20:00 start) | 2 hours, a route you choose, stops for photos | Rain covers; dress warmly | Families, groups |
| Fiat 500 by night (ours) | from €590 for 1–3 people (20:00 start) | 2 hours in an open-top vintage car | Blankets on board; a golf cart if it rains | Couples, photos |
Walking costs nothing: the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain are 5 to 15 minutes apart, but the Colosseum is about 25 minutes on foot from Trevi and about an hour from St Peter’s. A taxi is the cheapest way to reach one sight. A golf cart or a Fiat 500 wins when you want many sights in one evening, with someone else driving and planning the route.
Golf cart or Fiat 500 at night: what is the difference?
Both tours are private and last 2 hours, with pickup at your hotel, Airbnb or restaurant in the historic center; if you stay outside it, you meet at our office at Via del Colosseo 11A. You see the sights from the outside, and the drivers, who are not licensed tour guides, plan the stops around your wishes. We guarantee groups of up to 21 guests, and larger groups are possible on request. The price depends on the start time:
| Start | Golf cart by night | Fiat 500 by night |
|---|---|---|
| 20:00 | €450 for 1–3, €150 per person from 4 | €590 for 1–3, €1,180 for 4, €240 per person from 5 |
| 21:00 | €510 for 1–3, €160 per person from 4 | €690 for 1–3, €1,380 for 4, €280 per person from 5 |
| 22:00 | €550 for 1–3, €170 per person from 4 | €750 for 1–3, €1,500 for 4, €300 per person from 5 |
| 23:00 | Not available | €790 for 1–3, €1,580 for 4, €330 per person from 5 |
- Children: the golf carts take children of any age, with child seats available, and each child counts as a traveler. The Fiat 500s take children from 3, with a parent, and have no child seats.
- Style: the Fiat 500, or a Fiat 850 Spiaggina for larger groups, is a restored vintage cabrio converted to electric, a good choice for couples and photos. The golf cart costs less.
- Cheaper in winter: our private golf cart tour also starts at 18:00 or 18:30. From November to mid-April, the 2-hour version costs €350 for 1–3 people and includes the Trevi Fountain ticket and a stop for gelato or coffee. In November and December it is already dark at 18:00. On the 2-hour tour, the maximum group size depends on the start time.
- With an aperitivo: our Fiat 500 tour with aperitivo lasts 3 hours from 18:00 or 18:30, with a cocktail or a glass of wine and a tasting (not a dinner), from €650 for 1–3 people.
Is Rome safe at night? Practical tips
Rome’s historic center stays lively in the evening, especially around the main squares and in Trastevere. Take the same care you would in any big city:
- Watch your bag in crowds, for example at the Trevi Fountain.
- Take only official taxis: white, with “TAXI” on the roof and the Roma Capitale symbol and license number on the front doors, with the meter on. Book one on 060609 or with the city’s ChiamaTaxi app. Women traveling alone get 15% off the meter from 22:00 to 6:00.
- Wear shoes with grip: wet cobblestones are slippery.
- Plan your way back: on our tours, the driver drops you at your pickup point or at another place in the center.
When is a night tour not worth it?
- You stay near the Pantheon, Piazza Navona or the Trevi Fountain. Walk, before or after dinner.
- You only want one sight. For the lit-up Colosseum alone, a taxi or the metro is enough.
- You travel alone on a budget. Our night tours cost the same for 1, 2 or 3 people.
- You want to go inside monuments. Night tours show the sights from the outside.
- You travel with a child under 3. Choose the golf cart, not the Fiat 500.
